7 Reasons Why the New iPhone 3G Sucks
1. Too Expensive to Own
Apple and AT&T may have shaved a couple of hundred dollars off the price but they will more than make up for it in monthly fees. If you take into account the regular monthly fee, the data fee, the text message fee which used to be free, and the $99 annual mobileme fee you could end up spending over $1,000 a year to own an iPhone, that’s 200 gallons of $5.00 gas.
2. Can’t Use the GPS like a GPS
Forget about getting turn-by-turn voice directions in your car from the new iPhone 3G. The iPhone SDK makes it pretty clear it’s not allowed, “Applications may not be designed or marketed for real time guidance.” Yes it will superimpose your position on a Google map, or show you the closest pizzeria but what about getting real-time route guidance? There’s a rumor that TomTom may be developing a guidance application but you have to wonder how they’ll get it past the Apple police.
3. Can’t Tether the iPhone to Your Laptop
Want to save $60 per month for a 3G card for your laptop and use the iPhone instead? Not going to happen - not allowed. Although there are plenty of phones, including AT&T’s Tilt, that will allow you to use your 3G phone as a high speed modem for your laptop, the iPhone won’t be one of them so you can add the cost of a 3G card for your laptop at $720 a year to your total cost of ownership.
4. Still No Cut and Paste
Cut and Paste has been around on Apple computers since the earliest Mac Plus computers. What’s the big problem with implementing it on iPhones? Why is cut and paste so important? Suppose you’re browsing a web site and want to capture some text or a URL, or someone sent you an email and you want to grab some text from it and send to someone else. Not possible on an iPhone. Speaking of email, where’s the spell checker? Predictive typing is fine but spell checkers are everywhere else but here.
5. Wimpy 2 MP Camera
In the world of 5 MP Smartphones and 10 MP point and shoot cameras why is the iPhone still stuck with a measly 2 MP? That’s so 2003. While we’re at it how come we can’t record video, afraid the non-existent SD card might fill up? The iPhone should be able to stream video by now.
6. No Stereo Bluetooth
We thought the iPhone was supposed to be part iPod. At least they fixed the recessed headphone jack flaw (and called it a new feature) but the A2DP stereo Bluetooth standard has been around for a while and is missing from the iPhone.
7. The List Goes On
Still no Flash player for rich media content (what grudge does Steve Jobs hold against Adobe). Still can’t send pictures in MMS messages, still no native voice dialing, no mobile TV, no replaceable battery, no flash memory card, and on and on.
AT&T: iPhone Sucks, Buy a BlackBerry
July 16, 2008 in AT&T, Apple

An AT&T Regional Manager recently put together a 5 page document outlining exactly why the iPhone 3G ***** compared to any BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones. The document was SUPPOSED to be internal but when an AT&T mall employee used them as “flyers”, convincing customers OUT of the iPhone, we’re sure a few jobs are going to be lost.

Among the documents was a page titled Top 10 Reasons Why The iPhone is Still No BlackBerry. We’ve listed the reasons below along with an image of the actual document explaining each:

No removeable battery
No video record and no flash
No voice dial
No expandable memory
No MMS
No CDMA
No UMA
No Stereo Bluetooth
No Cut And Paste
The BlackBerry is ADDICTIVE

  1. Well, what’s your question?

  2. umm wats the question ?
anywayss , i agree that the iphone is worthless and stupid and way too much money . and pluss the bills are gonna come up to be lotss of money so that phone is just retarded .

  3. 1) Blackberrys cost the same. Their data plan is $30 a month. Albeit it’s not required like the 3G iPhone, but what use is the 3G iPhone without the internet? No GPS or Safari.

    2) Apple approved disk mode application and a terminal application. Why not approve an application from TomTom? Maybe they won’t approve a route guidance application from John Doe…but TomTom? One of the leaders in GPS? Yeah right.

    3) Yeah, it’s a shame…too bad I never use it, though.

    4) Cut and Paste will go on the iPhone eventually. Sure it’s not now, but how much do you need it now?

    5) It can stream video. But I agree with the camera. While I don’t use it, I’d like to be able to do more with the camera then just take a picture. Though while it’s 2 MP it’s far from wimpy. Terrible in low light, but amazing in regular in terms of color.

    6) Yeah, hopefully they fix this. I’d like more bluetooth profiles.

    7) Flash is Adobe’s job. Not Apple. Don’t blame Apple (you can blame them for rejecting Flash lite…but seriously…Flash lite on a 3.5″ screen???) Anyway, Adobe finished Flash for the iPhone. It works in the simulator. Now they just need to fix whatever bugs come up on the actual device.

MMS is one of the things that will never come to the iPhone. Apple prefers email. Voice dialing is certainly a shame…but seeing as there is no speed dial, Apple would implement voice dial like the current third party voice dial applications.

    Note, you’re forgetting one thing:

The iPhone is getting Spore and Bioshock. Quake 3 has been ported through jailbreaking. Star Wars Jedi is being ported.

What the iPhone lacks in hardware, it makes up in software. Can you get amazing applications like MIM on the Blackberry the same way? No. Could Epocrates and salesforce give you the same application on the Blackberry? No. It would look terrible and would be clunkier to use than if it were on the iPhone.

And when it comes down to it…Software is the most important in the business world (why do businesses care if you can send pictures through text as opposed to email, watch mobiletv, replace battery, etc.)

Your first point is pointless because the smart phones cost the same. 200 SMS was free for the iPhone ONLY. NO OTHER PHONE got the 200 SMS for free. Don’t flame AT&T for making the iPhone the same price as the Blackberry you’re so highly fond of. By the way, MobileMe isn’t required. If you have exchange then it works the exact same way.

Five of your other points can be fixed with software updates and App Store.

The only thing that’s valid is your point on the camera. That’s it.

Oh yeah, one more thing: how many people actually NEED the list you have? Expandable memory? The iPhone can have 16 GB…I don’t know anyone that carries 8 2 GB SD cards or 4 4 GB SD cards. Battery? Okay, that is valid. Of course for most people, they charge it at home every night so it doesn’t matter. Flash (as in camera flash) is definitely a valid point (but that goes under camera).

Video recording, Adobe Flash, Copy and Paste, voice dialing, etc. are all coming.
