In US, more people use non-free email service or more people use free email service? What if free email service provide go bankrupt? Will provider pre-inform us that they will close the free service so that we can forward mail to another email address in time?

Yes…in US more people use free e-mail then paid e-mail services.
Both are equally “secure”.
Never heard of an e-mail going bankrupt yet…but always worth to be cautious and it is wise to back up anything important on your computer anyways.
I suggest you drag your important e-mails to a folder on your desktop one by one..and burn in to a CD..
