the man is selling me his 2006 SAAB 93 with 6,693 miles on it for only $4850 dollars. so i sent him a e-mail that i was interseted in purchasing the car because it was located near my house. so he e-mail me this….
Hello there,
Thanks for your email !
First of all I would like to tell you that the car is located in Quebec, Canada as I
recently moved here. I received a good job here and along with the job I received a new
car. I have no use for the car anymore so I am forced to sell it below the market value.
The full price is $4850 US dollars with shipping included to your location. I have a clean
title ready to be signed. The car has no electrical or mechanical problems, never been
involved in any kind of accidents. For our protection we can use eBay Motors to complete
the transaction. The deal will go strictly according to eBay rules and policy. I want you
to know that I’ll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you. We will use
eBay Motors to manage the payment because it is the safest way for both of us and also you
will have 3 days to inspect the car before I receive the money. Also, a refund policy will
be included. In order to start the official transaction, I need to know your details:
lmao… it’s obviously a scam.
sound for real to me you are using eBay motors right?
100% SCAM!!!Any out of country seller or sellers willing to ship cars are frauds!!!!!!!!! For that car the KBB value is at least $20,000!!! DO NOT SEND HIM SHI*!!!
This is definitely a scam! The car he described would be much more – do not give him any information!
if it’s near your house, just go there and see it yourself.
don’t send any personal info.
It sounds like you’ll be getting the car before you pay, so that sounds like a bigger risk to him than you. Ebay motors is legit.
Scam, they sell everything under $5000 so it is a lesser crime, and also easier to get fake money orders/drafts/etc.
They sell everything like that, from cars and trucks to heavy equipment and tractors. They always offer free shipping without even knowing where you are.
I once followed one of these for fun, and a fellow offered to ship a tractor from UK to North America free by air cargo – all for less than $5000, what a joke…
They then use a fake money escrow company to get your money, and disappear… They probably even have a fake Ebay Motors site. Sometimes they ship you a TOY car or tractor, saying it’s your fault for not noticing…, but you never get your money back regardless…
Edit: I always offer to come see the item in person (never tell them exactly where you live first) and pay cash if I like it. No reputable seller would refuse that option, but these scammers all come up with excuses and refuse to deal in cold hard cash.
A used car valued at $15,000 selling for $5,000 (which includes shipping). Sounds too good to be true.
On the other hand, you could check into eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection and see if it would work for you. They have protection up to $50,000 on “eligible” transactions.
well if hes going to do it over ebay it sounds reasonable and safe,
but to be honest i would just stick to your local car dealer.
good luck
- unfortunately i am unable to say if its a scam or not, but i wouldnt go there!
I would say it is a scam.
This link has a story and several steps to take before purchasing a vehicle on eBay Motors:
“Make sure both you AND the seller are located in the United States. Remember, your eBay Protection Policy will be voided if you are buying a car from a seller outside the US.”
So, are you in the US and this seller is in Canada? Hm hm hm hm hm.

Be very careful:
This website implies that Craigslist has a warning now:
OFFERS TO SHIP CARS ARE 100% FRAUDULENT

The writer says “we can use eBay Motors to complete the transaction” – yes, that’s normal.
The writer says “We will use eBay Motors to manage the payment … you will have 3 days to inspect the car before I receive the money.”
The reality is that if eBay Motors handles the “payment” through PayPal you are not using an escrow service. This writer is very careful to avoid using the term “escrow service” – only a legitimate escrow service will protect your interests in this matter.
If the payment is made through PayPal, the writer will get the money immediately and probably disappear – and if there is no automobile, you are out of your money. If the writer ships you a toy automobile you will have no recourse to claim fraud and halt payment.
See this link:
At the bottom of that page (after the “ad”) the article says:
“eBay does not have an escrow service and recommends using only Escrow.com”
This is what eBay has to say about their escrow services:
