Does this advertisement for my University’s Summer Internship program sound discriminating?

Cal State University, Fullerton’ Summer Internship Program Application is misleading and sounds discriminatory towards students of higher income.

You let me know.

Overall Description
Students selected for this 2009 program will receive an 8-week paid summer internship working 20 hours per week at a pay rate of $12 per hour .
The internship will consist of training (approximately three half days) by The Sales Leadership Center and the opportunity to work at a “host company” in need of your talents.
Number of internships available: 30

Who is Eligible?
The program is being directed to undergraduate and graduate students at Cal State Fullerton. Because the internship is centered on sales and marketing internships, we believe many of the applicants will be from the Mihayho College of Business and Economics. However, it is open to all CSUF students.
The program is being offered in partnership with the Orange County Summer Youth Employment Program and as such there are certain additional guidelines:
•Interns must be age 16-24 at the time they apply for the program.
•Applicants must be able to provide proof of legal right to work in the U.S. There are a wide variety of Right to Work documents that may be used. Further information is provided in the Application section below.
•Applicants must fall within certain income guidelines. Again, further information in the Application section below.
If selected for the program, you will simultaneously be:
•A summer intern in the 2009 Summer Intern Program sponsored by The Sales Leadership Center at Cal State Fullerton.
•Expected to make strong contributions to the projects and on-going business of your host companies.
•Technically, an employee of Orange County.

Item A: OC SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM APPLICATION
Instructions to access a copy of the application:
1.Go to: www.ocsummerjobs.org
2.Scroll down the page and click on “APPLICANT”
3.Click on the words “Click here for the application form”
4.Fill out the application and print out
Or, simply go to:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/OCSYEPApplication-final.pdf

Eligibility
There are two types of eligibility that the program requires as set forth by the OC Summer Youth Employment Program.
Right to Work Eligibility
There are several ways to establish Right to Work Eligibility. Many are described in the opening section of the application itself. Additional information is available at:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/I-9.pdf
If you have any questions regarding RTW eligibility, please feel free to call 714-567-7528 OR TDD 711.

Income Eligibility
The OC Summer Youth Employment Program is geared toward students who have some level of financial need – typical of many CSUF students.
If you live at home with just your parents, your household income is $1,000,000 per year and your allowance is $1,000 per week, there will likely be a hurdle with regard to income eligibility.
However, if you’re like most CSUF students, you’re probably “scrambling” to make ends meet. Here are several examples of students that would qualify:
•Students that are receiving any kind of financial aid
•Students that live on their own
•Students that are financially independent
There are many other examples of students who would meet the eligibility guidelines. If you have questions, please contact us. If you are not quite sure if you meet the eligibility requirements, we would encourage you to error on the side of applying.
When filling out the questions regarding income on the application, please:
•Be truthful.
•Do NOT exaggerate or overstate your income.
While several factors are considered, a useful reference point is the set of guidelines on the following link:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/IncomeGuideline

How has the law screwed you?

This is a very long post, but The main point of this is, please tell me about your bad experience with the justice system. I will soon start a website, devoted to the men and women who are sold out for a power trip, left out to dry, and just plain screwed. Please Let your story be heard. It has always been bad but this is the final straw here, as i am looking into putting up a table stand near the bike traiI, where i would play guitar, sell drinks and homemade jerkey, good times, with most(75%, I still gotta eat) of the profit going to a good honest charity(any ideas?). I may be almost tax exempt but i read multiple counts of children shut down or extorted of their lemonade money, fruit stand money, what have you, by the black hole we call the government. since when does a lemonade stand require a building permit, business license, health inspection, and financial records? One boy and his parents in the netherlands was put out over $1500.00 for his. is this really the point where we are at as a society? Six year olds break the law when they make a cheap, delicous drink, sitting on a milk crate, out in the heat, sweating bullets, all just to make a few dollars? lets not forget the fact that they are offering a product, that we as free Americans, decide to purchase. Who needs to dip their hands in the pockets of a SIX YEAR OLD girl? What next, fill out a w- for Grandma’s Christmas card? That Malibu barbi is now 36% more expensive. Add to that the 7% sales tax. Sorry, honey, maybe after Easter. now what these kids are doing seems to be the basis for free market systems that this country was founded upon. how would our forefathers react to this, tax money wasted on a six year old guilty of quenching thirst? IRS agents, health inspectors, and the police have all been called in to put pressure on fukcing LEMONADE STANDS. Two goons from the IRS probably make more in a day than this girl makes(or spends for that matter) on lemonade in ten years. It happens all the time; on all levels, our rights as human beings, and wild animals(albeit neudered) are stepped on. At the same time, football players and movie stars kill people, and get a slap on the wrist.I dream of an America where people actually care about each other, to the point where they would rally in the streets, fight and sacrifice, even GIVE their LIFE for a complete stranger(non-famous) at the slightest scent of injustice. It is something we would all benefit from. There are thousands of cases, every year; judges paid, jurors paid, jurors threatened, false/ planted evidence, no evidence, framing at the highest level, the list goes on and on.The waste, the greed, the corruption, and pure garbage must be rid of this country. WE as the public need to put a fear into our “leaders”, law enforcement, justice system. Like the kind of fear that keeps you up at night, cause you think you might not wake again. Let them know they are not untouchable, as they believe, and want you to believe. The newspapers should have an entire section dedicated to keeping the courts transparent, with details of all cases, written by a member of the real public, not some journalist getting bjs under the table by the same liars they are writing about. Put the judge’s address in there too. Free things don’t always stay that way. remember when water was free? WE need to do something quick before our country becomes a police state. Thank you very much. feel free to email me if you wanna talk about something interesting…..

What is your opinion on this. as a parent and as an objective American citizen?

The following quote is from http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/business/01tobacco.html?_r=3&hpw (from a “CDC Public Health News Update” I receive weekly via email).

“Tobacco companies in the United States filed the first lawsuit, in federal district court in Kentucky, against the Food and Drug Administration, challenging a recently enacted federal law containing marketing and speech restrictions. The landmark law, signed by President Barrack Obama in June, requires new warning labels on packaging, limits advertising to black and white for certain audiences comprised of greater than 15% or two million readers under age 18, and bans advertising within 1000 feet of a school or playground, among other restrictions, which critics argue violate First Amendment free speech rights of the tobacco companies. Floyd Abrams, an attorney representing Lorillard Tobacco Company, argues, “The government has great power to protect children from certain products, including cigarettes, but tobacco is a legal product for adults. When you cut back their ability to speak to lawful purchasers, you do start running into legal issues.” Clifford E. Douglas, executive director of University of Michigan Tobacco Research Network contends, “If there’s any commercial speech that is constitutional to restrict, it’s the type of marketing covered in this legislation.” Altria Group, Inc., maker of Marlboro products, is not a participant in this lawsuit and supported the bill which is designed to reduce promotion of tobacco use to children and youth smoking.”

As a parent, I am happy to see this done to limit children being subjected to such advertising, especially since studies prove that children are much more susceptible to its influence. As a patriotic American I feel angered at the arrogance of our current government for enacting a federal law that blatantly limits someone’s (even the disgusting tobacco companies, LOL) freedom of speech. The freedoms afforded to us by the Constitution were not meant to be manipulated to suit different situations like this. A big part of me also sees this as just more big government trying to do the job that parents should be doing themselves.

What is your opinion? And please be respectful of others’ opinions! Thanks!

Drug companies and insurance companies run America’s Health care system! Enough is enough! right?

Its time to march! We will not be scared off by the government in their quest of manipulative scare tactics! Propaganda at its finest! We have the worst health care for an industrialized nation, one of the lowest life expectancies for an industrialized nation, and the highest infant mortality rate! Joseph Kobbel really knew what he was doing…. Our nation is taught to think we are the best… but we aren’t… Are we really a FREE nation? Many other countries have freedom of speech… not just us folks! We are controlled by a free market! One that allows the growth and expansion of corporate powerhouses and does little for its citizens. Drug companies are the worst, and that’s where it really can get us! No wonder other countries think we are so backwards. I love my country! I want to best for it! This is not an America **** speech! We deserve better!

Organizing a Group of people to help in these efforts. Looking for ambassadors in each state to help! if you are interested, send your information and a 2 paragraph essay of why you fit the role of ambassador for your state to mandi_85reform@yahoo.com. Anyone can join, my ambassador selections will be sent to those on the mailing list on May 1! If you would like to be on the mailing list send your name and email address to the above address as well and indicate whether you would like to be appointed to your local ambassador.

What little things can we do to send a strong message to these drug companies, insurance companies, and the lobbyist that support them?
Please star this question to keep it going!
I don’t feel that it will be worse… nothing can be perfect … doctors will actually get bonuses based on how well they are with their patients. Getting proper care under the free market is much harder. Tests and medicines are too expensive for the average person in their older age, and even if you have good insurance, the company itself will seek any way to not pay for it! Whether it be pre-existing conditions or a nickel we owed them 10 years ago.

MO No Call List-I re registered and still get unwanted calls?

The Missouri No call registry recently “ran-out” after 5 years, according to recent, local media. The message was interrpreted that you have to reregister your phone number if you want to remain on the MO No Call List. I reregistered my phone number more than 3 weeks ago, and I swear, I am receiving MORE calls from non-profit organizations (i.e. fire fighters, police canine units, etc.) and from Marketing Research Companies (i.e.Knowledge Networks, Robin #435-893-0167). I have emailed complaints via the Jay Nixon Mo No Call List website and called the toll free number to get an answer with no success. These people that call me are VERY rude and hang up on me even after I ask them to remove my phone number from their list. Anyone got any ideas how to stop these people? Got any ideas how I can make these callers miserable too?

I received an email offering baptism and confirmation services at the university where i work ?

is that legal?
are they allowed to send religious emails like this
i’m not religious by the way
